A 72-year-old man received a fine of 900 euros after he himself repaired a pothole in the street in the city of Monza, Italy.

Claudio Trenta had already complained about the pothole to the authorities, but no action had been taken. He decided to solve the problem by spending 10 euros on asphalt.

Some time later, he was surprised to receive the fine for carrying out the “work” without permission or competence. He shared the case on social media, where many people showed solidarity.

The mayor of the city explained that the fine cannot be canceled due to the municipality’s building code.

Trenta says that nevertheless, he intends to fight to have the fine withdrawn, arguing that the repair should have been carried out by the municipality.
